We provide ESM "as-is": No guarantees it'll work perfectly, but we try our best to keep it running.

If something goes wrong: We're not liable for server issues, lost data, or drama in your community.

What ESM Is & What You're Agreeing To

Exile Server Manager (ESM) is a free, open-source project that provides:

  • Discord bot integration for Arma 3 Exile servers
  • Web-based management dashboard for server administrators
  • Real-time notification system for players
  • Remote server administration tools

By using ESM (the bot, website, or any related services), you agree to follow these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use ESM.

User Requirements

To Use ESM, You Must:
  • Be at least 13 years old (or meet your local age requirements)
  • Have valid Discord and Steam accounts
  • Provide accurate information when registering
  • Follow all applicable laws and regulations
  • Respect Discord's and Steam's Terms of Service
Server Administrators Must Also:
  • Have legitimate rights to the server you're registering
  • Ensure your server complies with Arma 3/Bohemia Interactive's terms
  • Not use ESM for any illegal or harmful activities
  • Maintain reasonable security practices

What You Can & Can't Do

Encouraged Uses

  • Managing your Exile server through Discord
  • Helping players with territories and notifications
  • Building community around your server
  • Contributing to ESM's open-source development
  • Sharing feedback and suggestions

Prohibited Activities

You may NOT:
  • Try to hack, exploit, or abuse ESM's systems
  • Spam commands or flood the bot with requests
  • Impersonate other users or communities
  • Use ESM to harass, threaten, or harm others
  • Share or distribute malicious content
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or copy ESM's code for commercial use
  • Use ESM for any illegal activities
  • Circumvent security measures or access restrictions

Server-Specific Rules

As a server administrator, you also agree not to:

  • Register servers you don't actually control
  • Use fake or misleading server information
  • Configure ESM in ways that violate platform terms (Discord, Steam, etc.)
  • Share your server authentication keys with unauthorized parties

Content & Intellectual Property

ESM's Content & Licensing

ESM's source code (bot, website, and Arma 3 mod) is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) . This means:

You CAN:
  • Use ESM's code for non-commercial purposes
  • Modify and adapt it for your needs
  • Share your changes with others
  • Study how everything works
You MUST:
  • Give proper credit to ESM
  • Share your modifications under the same license
  • Keep it non-commercial
  • Not use ESM's name/logo without permission

Commercial use? If you want to use ESM's code for commercial purposes, you'll need separate permission from us.

Your Content

When you use ESM, you might provide:

  • Community and server information
  • Custom notification templates
  • Configuration settings
  • Feedback and suggestions

You keep ownership of your content, but you give us permission to:

  • Store and process it to provide ESM's services
  • Display it in your community dashboards
  • Use aggregated, anonymized data for service improvements
  • Share configuration examples (with identifying info removed)

Service Availability & Limitations

"As-Is" Service

ESM is provided as-is, without warranties. This means:

  • We can't guarantee 100% uptime (though we try for 99%+)
  • Features might have bugs or change over time
  • We might need to take the service down for maintenance
  • Some features depend on third-party services (Discord, Steam)
Rate Limits & Fair Use

To keep ESM running smoothly for everyone:

  • Commands have cooldowns to prevent spam
  • Excessive API usage may be temporarily restricted
  • Obvious abuse will result in account suspension
  • Server connections are limited by available resources

Privacy & Data

How we handle your data is covered in our Privacy Policy. Key points:

  • We collect only what's needed for ESM to work
  • We don't sell data or use it for advertising
  • You can delete your account and data anytime
  • Some data may be shared with community safety partners (limited identifiers only)

Liability & Disclaimers

Important Legal Stuff

ESM is a community project, not a commercial service. We provide it for free and do our best, but:

  • We're not responsible for data loss, server downtime, or technical issues
  • We can't guarantee ESM will meet your specific needs
  • Community disputes, player issues, and server management remain your responsibility
  • We're not liable for any damages arising from ESM's use or inability to use it

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ESM's developers and contributors won't be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities
  • Server crashes, player disputes, or community issues
  • Third-party actions or content

Account Termination

When We Might Suspend/Ban Accounts

  • Violating these terms or our community guidelines
  • Attempting to hack or abuse ESM's systems
  • Harassment of other users or communities
  • Illegal activity or behavior
  • Excessive resource usage or system abuse

Your Rights

  • You can delete your account anytime through the web dashboard
  • We'll try to give you notice before suspension (except for serious violations)
  • You can appeal suspensions through our support channels
  • Data deletion follows the timeline in our Privacy Policy

Changes to These Terms

We might update these terms occasionally. When we do:

  • We'll post the new version on our website
  • We'll announce major changes on Discord
  • Continued use means you accept the new terms
  • You can delete your account if you disagree

Governing Law & Disputes

These terms are governed by Delaware law, United States. For any legal disputes:

  • We'll try to resolve it informally first through our support channels
  • Formal disputes will be handled in appropriate US courts
  • You waive any right to jury trial or class action lawsuits
  • Small claims court is acceptable for smaller issues

Miscellaneous Legal Stuff

Entire Agreement

These terms, plus our Privacy Policy, are the complete agreement between us. They replace any previous agreements.

Severability

If part of these terms is found to be invalid, the rest still applies.

Assignment

We might transfer our rights and obligations to someone else (like if the project changes hands). You can't transfer your account to someone else.

Force Majeure

We're not responsible for service interruptions caused by things beyond our control (natural disasters, internet outages, zombie apocalypse, etc.).

Open Source & Community

ESM's Philosophy

ESM is built for the community, by the community:

  • Source code is freely available for review and contribution
  • We welcome feedback, bug reports, and feature suggestions
  • The goal is making Exile servers more enjoyable for everyone
  • Commercial use or competing services require permission
